Your Care, Made Simple

What is comprehensive family medicine?
Comprehensive family medicine means we care for your whole health—not just individual symptoms. We help manage multiple conditions, monitor drug interactions, coordinate care with specialists, and guide you through all stages of life, from prevention and diagnosis to chronic care and healthy aging.

Why should I see my family physician instead of walk-in clinics?
Your family doctor provides consistent, personalized care based on your health history and goals. Walk-in clinics may treat one issue at a time, but they don’t know your full story. In Ontario, over 1 million people are searching for a family doctor. If you’re rostered with us but not using our care, please let us know so we can offer your spot to someone in need.

Why is an annual visit important?
Annual visits help catch problems early and keep your care on track. These checkups allow us to:
• Review medications and adjust as needed
• Screen for cancers, heart disease, and diabetes
• Monitor ongoing health concerns
• Talk about changes in your health or lifestyle

Even if you feel well, an annual visit helps prevent future issues.

Do I need a valid health card for my visit?
Yes. OHIP covers medically necessary visits, but your card must be valid on the day of your appointment. Without it, you’ll be billed directly.

What does “medically necessary” mean?
Medically necessary services are those needed to diagnose, treat, or manage illness or injury. Services like sick notes, forms, cosmetic procedures, and travel consults are not covered by OHIP and are billed privately.

Why can I only discuss one issue per visit?
To give each concern proper attention and stay on schedule, we ask that you focus on one issue per visit. We’re happy to book follow-ups for additional concerns.

Can you complete forms during my visit?
Yes, but please let us know when booking. Many forms take extra time and may not be completed during your appointment. Form completion is not covered by OHIP and may require a fee.

Why do I need an appointment to renew a prescription?
Prescriptions need regular monitoring to ensure they remain safe and effective. Medications can lose effectiveness, cause side effects, or interact with other treatments over time. To reduce the risk of harm and ensure you're on the best treatment plan, your doctor needs to review your condition before renewing. If you have no refills left, please book a visit at least 2–3 weeks before running out.

What if I’m late or need to cancel?
Please arrive 10 minutes early. If you’re more than 10–15 minutes late, we may need to reschedule your appointment. Call us as soon as possible if you need to cancel to avoid a missed appointment fee.

Can I walk in without an appointment?
No. All visits must be booked in advance. We do offer same-day urgent appointments when available—please call first.

How do I get my test results?
Routine results are usually shared only if follow-up is needed. If you’d like to review them in detail, please book a follow-up visit. For privacy reasons, we do not send results by email.

What if I need care after hours?
If the clinic is closed and you need care:
• Call Health811 (formerly Telehealth Ontario) at 811
• Visit a walk-in or urgent care clinic
• Call 911 in an emergency

What behaviour is expected at the clinic?
Respectful behaviour is expected at all times. Abusive language, disruptive conduct, or repeated missed appointments will not be tolerated.

For the safety of our team and other patients, these behaviours will result in termination of care from our clinic.
